Palou takes stirring race win. Janosz finishes runner-up to Stuvik

Alex Palou (Campos Racing) has taking his third triumph this season at home event. Mason (Emilio de Villota Motorsport) and Stern (Team West-Tec) came second and third. Janosz (RP Motorsport) finishes second overall in the drivers´ championship

Barcelona.-The end of the 2014 season could not get any better at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Two drivers fought to achieve the vice-championship in the Euroformula Open until the very last lap. Finally Artur Janosz, in the Dallara F312 entered by RP Motorsport, grabbed the vice-championship by a single point, with Alex Palou (Campos Racing) third. Early in the morning, Palou posted the pole position time beating Nelson Mason (Emilio de Villota Motorsport) and Yarin Stern (Team West-Tec). Sandy Stuvik (RP Motorsport) placed fourth on the starting grid with Janosz fifth, not the best possible start for him.

When the race got underway, Palou kept the lead ahead of Mason and Stern. Behind Janosz wasn´t able to pass his teammate Stuvik, as his start wasn´t as brilliant as yesterday. Palou´s strategy was to pull away as soon as possible and he managed to do it, setting consecutive fastest laps. RP Motorsport duo, running fourth and fifth, hadn´t good pace enough to fight for the podium in Race two.

At halfway point Palou had built a solid gap and his second place overall seemed to be a reality, taking into account his potential race win and fastest lap. But when the race was coming to an end, Janosz overtook Stuvik, and it would prove to be vital. Mason, second at the moment, was neither scoring nor blocking any points so Janosz could gather some extra points. After 17 laps Palou crossed the finish line as race winner, Mason finished second and Stern claimed another podium and in view of the foregoing, considering the Canadian driver wasn´t scoring points, Janosz claimed this season´s vice-championship by a single point. It was a rewarding end of season in his second year in the series. Stuvik finished fifth to put the end to his amazing season when he was crowned champion.

Yu Kanamaru (Emilio de Villota Motosport) took 6th and above all he ranked 4th in the drivers´ championship beating Stern, who was his major rival throughout the season. John Simonyan (RP Motorsport) was 7th, ahead of Leonardo Pulcini (DAV Racing) and Tanart Sathienthirakul (Team West-Tec). Michele Beretta (BVM Racing) achieved a top-ten finish on his debut in the series.

The final drivers standings´ was dominated by Stuvik on 332 points, with Janosz and Palou behind on 243 and 242 respectively. Kanamaru and Stern rounded off the top-five. Teams´ classification was won by RP Motorsport (152 points), with Campos Racing (101 points) and Team West-Tec (58 points) on the final podium. The Spanish F3 championship, after six races in the Iberian Peninsula, was won by Stuvik (118 points). Palou took second on 105
points and Janosz third on 91.
Now the Eurformula Open gets a well-deserved winter break, with the schedule for next year to be released soon.
