64th Republic Day of India celebrated with gaiety

New Delhi, Jan 27, IRNA – India on Saturday celebrated its 64th Republic Day across the country with gaiety.

 

Beside the flag hoisting ceremonies, nation’s achievements in various fields, the military prowess, country’s rich and diverse cultural heritage, tabuleaux of various departments and presentation by school students were displayed during the annual parade to mark the Republic Day.

 

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh paid homage to martyrs by laying wreath at the war memorial at India Gate to commemorate the indomitable courage of the armed forces personnel.

 

Singh welcomed Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk, chief guest at the Republic Day Parade, and other VIPs.

 

President Pranab Mukherjee unfurled the national flag and took the salute of marching contingents at Rajapath.

 

A kaleidoscopic view of the country's rich cultural heritage and military prowess were on display at the 64th Republic Day parade.

 

Governors of the states hoisted the national flag and took the salute of impressive parade in the presence of chief ministers and other state officials.

 

 

Republic Day honors the day during which the Constitution of India came into force replacing the Government of India Act 1935 as the governing document on January 26, 1950.
