Solar power rather than N-power can meet global energy needs

New Delhi, Mar 10, IRNA -- Nobel laureate and noted German physicist Professor Hans Peter Heurr Friday advocated use of solar power worldwide to meet all energy needs rather than nuclear power, which he said is not 100 percent safe

'Solar power is available for all households and it can be banked upon for all energy needs of a country. Nuclear power is not 100 percent safe. In fact, plutonium is much more dangerous and worse than Uranium 235. The world has so much plutonium and we don't know how to bury them,' Heurr, Director Emeritus of Munich-based Max Planck Institute for Physics, said in Chennai, capital of Tamil Nadu state, the PTI reported. He was speaking to reporters there after delivering a lecture on 'Nuclear Power and Energy Hunger'.

Terming the nuclear option 'inacceptable,' he said that some people opine that the risks have to be taken. 'Yeah I do say we have to take risks. But we have to take the risks that are acceptable.'

What can be termed as inacceptable is if one attempts something whose results can go beyond one's own generation, he said.
